Of Course Michael Moore Has Been Making A Secret Film About Trump This Whole Time

Michael Moore was everywhere during the 2004 presidential election. His scathing anti-Bush documentary “Fahrenheit 9/11” was released months before polls opened, he went on the road to swing states on a national speaking tour, and happily drew the ire of almost every Republican in the game.

Twelve years later, Moore is still outspoken ― he’s publicly denounced Donald Trump many times and in many different ways ― but has stayed somewhat on the sidelines this election season ... at least that’s what we thought.

On Tuesday morning, the filmmaker announced his new film, “Michael Moore in TrumpLand,” via a Twitter screenshot of Trump’s children taken in an editing studio. The film takes inspiration from Moore’s one-man show, which he meant to perform in Newark, Ohio, earlier this month, until he claimed he was banned from the theater.

According to Moore, a local community board deemed the production “too controversial” and refused to host the show, although the theater later released a statement that the banning had more to do with a “too-short time frame” and various other security and production concerns.

“Michael Moore in TrumpLand,” which premieres at the IFC Center in New York on Tuesday night, takes aim at the Republican presidential nominee, who Moore believes can win the election, through the lens of the director’s experience in middle America.

“See the film Ohio Republicans tried to shut down,” the film’s description reads. “Oscar-winner Michael Moore dives right into hostile territory with his daring and hilarious one-man show, deep in the heart of TrumpLand in the weeks before the 2016 election.”

Editor’s note: Donald Trump regularly incites political violence and is a serial liar, rampant xenophobe, racist, misogynist and birther who has repeatedly pledged to ban all Muslims ― 1.6 billion members of an entire religion ― from entering the U.S.
