You Won't Believe What This Older Couple Did Every Day In 2013

Two people in their 60s gave new meaning to the word "perseverance" in 2013, running a marathon every single day of the year. The couple, Janette Murray-Wakelin, 64, and Alan Murray, 68, completed their 365-day run around Australia on Tuesday, according to their website.

And they accomplished their goal while on a raw, vegan diet that included several bananas a day.

Even more incredible? On Wednesday, Jan. 1, they ran their 366th consecutive marathon, which they say is a world record.

According to their Facebook page, they've run precisely 9,776.75 miles.

"We are healthier, more physically fit and have unlimited energy at beyond 60 years of age than in our earlier years," they wrote on their website, RunningRawAroundAustralia.com.

The Murrays, who have been married more than 43 years, say their goals are to inspire others to make conscious lifestyle choices, to promote compassion for all living beings, and to raise environmental awareness for a sustainable future.

Janette Murray-Wakelin says she was diagnosed with a highly aggressive breast cancer in 2001. Although only given six months to live, she says she's managed to surprise her doctors by extending her life through changes in her diet and lifestyle. Read more about her story here.

A plant-based diet has been linked with decreased stress and increased happiness levels.

The Murrays aren't the only older marathoners completing their goals. Over 12,000 people aged 50 and older pounded the pavement in the ING New York City Marathon last November. Indeed the oldest runner was 93.
