Jorge Perez and Yoan Capote’s Art
As the full moonlight danced in the water at Perez Art Museum Miami (PAMM), I considered the incredible night of art talks, laughs, great Latin music, and people I was blessed to experience. It still all feels surreal to have been present at an event that honors art and artists among insightful minds, that actually get the importance art has for society overall. The celebration and opening of “On the Horizon: Contemporary Cuban Art from the Jorge M. Perez Collection”at PAMM was a one of kind experience.
Juan Carlos Alom (Artist and his ART)
“On the Horizon” is an exhibition showcasing a selection of works by contemporary Cuban artists donated to the museum by philanthropist and renowned collector Jorge M. Pérez—the majority from a recent gift of over 170 pieces, as well as works previously gifted to PAMM in 2012, and several recent acquisitions purchased with funds generously provided by Pérez. I noticed that all the works were as varied in subject matter, mediums, and materials as the artists themselves . You will not be bored at this exhibit as every piece of art intrigues the mind.
Yoan Capote (Artist and His Art)
The exhibition will be presented in three parts over the course of a year, and features recent work produced by artists living both in Cuba and abroad. Exhibition artists include Juan Carlos Alom, José Bedia, Yoan Capote, Elizabet Cerviño, Tomás Esson, Roberto Fabelo, Teresita Fernández, jorge & larry, Sandra Ramos, Gory Rogelio López Marín, and Antonia Wright.
Jorge Perez gets the importance of art and the voices struggling to be heard through this creative medium, so he talks the talk, but more importantly, he walks the walk. He places all manner of art in his real estate endeavors, in fact, on the actual buildings as he did with the huge Fabian Burgos mural on the Brickell Heights Building. He puts his influence, finances, passion and hard working ethic into bringing art to Miami and facilitating these incredible artists and as a result, this ensures that more art is created. I encourage you to experience this exhibit for yourself. Miami is becoming the mecca of art that it should rightfully be and I couldn't be more excited and humbled to witness it.
