MAAD - Singer, songwriter, model & DJ… New York City native MAAD is no stranger to music and the fashion world. Having spent recent years modeling for top publications and brands such as ELLE, NYLON, Seventeen. Her songwriting ability afforded her to work alongside the likes of Claude Kelly (Britney Spears, Jason Derulo), Deputy (Rihanna, J Cole), GRADES (Dua Lipa, NAO) and The Stereotypes (Bruno Mars, Fifth Harmony) and collaborating with internationally renowned rap artist A$AP Ferg. MAAD has firmly set her sights on the spotlight with her blossoming solo career and she’s on a one-woman mission to bring throwback funk and soul influenced sounds back to the forefront of the music scene!

We caught up with MAAD to discuss her musical journey, new single Wonderland and what’s next for the funk and soul recording artist.

What’s the message behind wonderland?

Wonderland is so bittersweet to me. It’s about the balance between wanting to be around loved ones and still pursuing what your heart desires. Sometimes it’s hard to have both but you figure it out along the way.

How would you describe your music to someone who hasn’t listened to it?

Groovy, Sexy & Playful.

Where do you get your musical inspiration?

I've always been obsessed with a retro sound and that shows in my previous EP, 'LÉ FUNK' and has flavors of that in the newer music as well.

Are there any other upcoming collaborations we can look forward to?

I've worked with some really amazing producers and songwriters for my follow up EP, which is due out next year. It’s always great to collaborate with people that can bring out another side of you and you'll hear that in the newer material.

What have you found to be most challenging being in the music industry? And how are you dealing with it?

I think the most challenging part about the music industry is how much it continues to change. We're in the age of tech and that's how everyone stays connected. It’s more so what do you have that sticks out and will hold on to someone’s attention. The only way to keep up is to change with the times and that’s been the only way I can deal with it.

What’s next for MAAD?

Next up for me is releasing more music and visuals. I also plan on doing some touring next year so I'm super excited to hit the road.
