I met the Brooklyn-based rock band Country Mice when I took photos of them playing a show last fall. Soon after, I interviewed the lead singer, Jason Rueger, about their soon to be released sophomore album, Hour of the Wolf, and took some promo photos of the band. We had a shared love for bands and artists like Wilco, Neil Young and Purling Hiss, and somewhere in those two meetings (neither of us remembers when), I must have mentioned that I played the drums. I got an email a few weeks later asking if I would audition to play drums for their upcoming tour of the US. I was thrilled to be playing with a band again, but it was also a chance for me to take photos on the road, which is my favorite thing in the world to do. We headed out from Brooklyn in mid-February, playing across the country for the next three months. Our tour (in no particular order) took us through Ohio, Indiana, Pennsylvania, North and South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Illinois, Iowa, Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska, Utah, Colorado, California, Arizona and Nevada. This selection of photos gives just a sample of the diverse landscapes and strange artifacts this country has to offer a touring band. You can see more of my photography here.
