One Direction Star Responds To Claims He's Homophobic

"I'm just here to make people smile."

One Direction star Liam Payne is speaking out against claims he is homophobic after making a statement about same-sex relationships.

"This is my favorite song off the last album, and it is about trying to find that number one woman in your life, which none of you can relate to, ’cause most of you are girls," he said before performing "Girl Almighty" at a recent concert. "Except for the boys in here, you know what I’m talking about."

After people criticized Payne's failure to acknowledge that lesbians exist (and some may have been in the audience), the singer tweeted about those who mistakenly take things "literal" these days.

Although he said he would not comment further, he went on to comment further.

He finally said he misspoke and apologized.

While other members of the band have spoken out for equal rights, Payne has previously come under fire for things like tweeting his support for the "Duck Dynasty" clan's "family values."
