Cheerleader With One Leg Doesn't Let The World Get Her Down, Takes Self-Acceptance To New Heights

College student and amputee, Patience Beard, won our hearts when she made the division 1 cheer squad at the University of Arkansas. Now, in her second year cheering for the Razorbacks, she continues to amaze and inspire with her performance and words of wisdom.

Patience told NBC News that she has never known life without a prosthetic. Proximal Focal Femoral Deficiency stunted the growth of her left femur bone when she was less than a year old, but she's never let this stand in her way.

Her inspiring self-acceptance is evidenced by an attention-grabbing zebra-print prosthetic leg that tells the world she is proud of who she is on and off the sidelines.

"You can't change it, so own it. Being able to inspire people is something I've always wanted to do," she says.

And inspire us she does.

Watching her jump through the air is a reminder that we should feel free to create own standards for what is "normal" and beautiful.
