We all start off the summer with the best of intentions. You're going to hit the beach every weekend, take advantage of every fun activity going on in your town, and be in the best shape of your life while doing it. Next thing you know it's Labor Day weekend, and... where did the summer go?
Summer is only so many weeks long and if we're not careful, it can pass by in the blink of an eye. Use these tips to make the most of the season while it's here!
Be realistic with your goals. If you spent the whole winter hibernating (aka eating heavy foods and getting no exercise) and you aren't quite fitting into last year's bikini, that's okay! Don't stress it and DEFINITELY don't overdo it now with the diet and exercise routine. Embrace where you are and figure out how to move forward. In the summertime we are naturally more energetic. Why not check out your local pool or try out some beach yoga? Heading out on vacation? Hello, water sports! This is the time for long walks on the beach, fun 5k runs and playing in the ocean. Dropping 20 pounds before July is an unrealistic goal, and let's face it, it's no fun. Set an intention to get more movement into your day, and your summer, and you'll be okay.
Create a bucket list. The difference between saying, "What an incredible summer!" and "Ugh, I didn't do anything fun" in September lies in the power of your pen and cute stationary. Grab your girlfriends and work up a list of every awesome thing you want to do this summer, from sidewalk drinks to outdoor concerts to adventurous day trips. Then when you're trying to figure out what to do this weekend, you'll already know!
Identify the difference between treating yourself and over-indulging. Fruity drinks and ice cream can be quite a draw in the summer time. It's okay to treat yourself once in a while, but for the sake of your health (and your waistline), be careful not to over-indulge. Green smoothies and homemade ice cream (can be as simple as blending your favorite frozen fruit with almond milk) taste just as refreshing in the summer without all the added sugar and artificial flavors.
