'One Tree Hill' Finale: Saying Goodbye With Tears, Happy Endings And A Look Back (VIDEO)

'One Tree Hill' Finale Brings Tears, Happiness And A Look Back

It was the end of an era on The CW as "One Tree Hill" (Wed., 8 p.m. ET on The CW) closed out a nine year run for the network. The show's even older than the network, having premiered on The WB back in 2003, three years before the UPN-WB merger that created The CW.

For the finale, the show harkened back to those WB years with several trips down memory lane as Brooke, Haley and Nathan not only reflected back on their high school days, but actually interacted with their younger selves thanks to some fancy trick editing. It was an effective and emotional use of technology, and a beautiful way to reward long-time fans with a look at how far each of them have come.

While everyone got their happy ending, the hour ended with an additional treat by giving fans a peek forward to show that happiness continued to follow them into their future lives as well. It was a sweet gesture and well deserved for all of them, considering how how much they've had to endure the past nine years -- thirteen for the characters. They deserve happiness now.
