'Where's The Proof?' Kids Recite Common Excuses For Not Helping The Poor (VIDEO)

We’ve grown accustomed to hearing pundits, politicians and our own peers rationalize why we shouldn’t get involved in fixing the problems faced by people in far-flung impoverished countries.

But when we heard those same hackneyed excuses in kids' voices, we couldn’t help feeling alarmed.

In an attempt to grab the attention of jaded people, ONE -- a nonprofit that works to fight poverty and the spread of preventable diseases -- cast a number of young kids to share some of the common justifications we often give for not getting involved.

"Those people in Africa don’t want to help themselves," one kid noted.

"Stop wasting my hard-earned money," another child said.

"It’s like throwing money down a rat hole," a young girl declared.

Luckily, our belief in children as the hopeful voice of the future was reinstated about 30 seconds into the video. Each child turned it around by sharing some hopeful evidence (in the past 10 years, 46 million more kids are in school, for example) as to why we should continue to advocate for the underserved.
