Oprah’s Book Club has a brand new selection as of today: Love Warrior, by Glennon Doyle Melton.
Already a best-selling author with a popular parenting blog and close online community, Glennon has been candid and open about her personal trials and triumphs, from her experience as a mother to coping with her husband’s infidelity. Love Warrior is no different.
“It’s daring and it’s raw,” Oprah says. “It’s filled with a lot of naked ― I do mean naked ― truths.”
The book was something Glennon says she was compelled to write after the fateful therapy session in which she learned that her husband had been unfaithful.
“I got to my car and I sat down in my minivan and I typed out an email to my sister. It said, ‘I’ve never been in greater pain than I am right now,’” Glennon says. “And what I’ve learned about pain is that it is not to be numbed and it is not to be ignored and it is not to be wasted. I’m going to use every bit of this pain as fuel.”
On August 1, Glennon announced that she and her husband were separating. However, as Glennon says in the above clip, her story will always be one of redemption. “I don’t know if my marriage will be redeemed, but I will be,” she asserts.
Adds Oprah, you don’t have to be in a similar situation to find Love Warrior relatable and powerful. “You’re going to absolutely love this book and the spirit of it, whether you’re married or single, whether you’re a mom or not,” Oprah says. “All women are going to see themselves in these pages.”
Glennon is also helping facilitate a four-lesson online workshop with Brene Brown, focusing on giving others the tools to help make it through tough times.
