1. One Home for Everything:
Every item in your life should have it's own home so that you know exactly where it is when you need it. When you're done using an item, put it back in it's home to avoid the headache of having to search for it later. Remember, there's no such thing as organized chaos, only chaos.
2. Like with Like:
Grouping like items together makes for easy organizing. Think of it as different aisles in a grocery store, but for your home or office. Put all of your first aid kit supplies together in one place in a bathroom cabinet or hall closet. Place office supplies together in a desk drawer. Grouping like with like is easy because it goes with how our mind already categorizes things.
3. Something In, Something Out:
This rule is simple, but effective. Whenever you bring something new into the house, you have to toss something out. Doing so helps you maintain your "stuff equilibrium" and avoid acquiring too much clutter.
Another key to long-term success is paying attention to the stories you tell yourself about organizing "later" or "someday." As we know, neither of them exist! The only day to organize is today.
