Alt-rock was king in the early-to-mid 1990s with acts like Pearl Jam, Stone Temple Pilots, and Weezer dominating the music scene. But, as the decade drew to a close, the music well dried up with genre-bending acts like Korn and Limp Bizkit taking over. Then came Orgy. The California band didn't change music as we know it nor did they have hit upon hit (they only had arguably two mega-hits with "Stitches" and their cover of New Order's "Blue Monday") but they made rock music interesting again. Formed in 1997, the band launched their debut Candyass a year later and went on to sell two million copies of that album. Their follow-up album Vapor Transmission didn't resonate quite as much but did launch a reasonable hit with "Fiction" and kept the "out there" band in the mainstream.
As the years went on, the band faded like a flower (thanks for that example Roxette) thanks to band blow ups and burn outs, but thankfully after a seven-year hiatus they're back with founding member Jay Gordon along with a new cast of characters: guitarists Carlton Bost and Ashburn Miller, bassist Nic Speck, and drummer Jamie Miller. Orgy just wrapped up a brief tour and are currently in the studio recording their long-awaited new album, which will feature an appearance by the Grammy Award-winning Skrillex. At a show last month in New York -- Irving Plaza to be exact -- Jamie Miller and Jay Gordon discussed what's new and what's up with the band. Watch it and get psyched.
