Orlando Cruz, Gay Boxer, To Wear Rainbow Shorts And Pink Gloves For World Title Fight

LOOK: Gay Boxer Plans HUGE Rainbow-Colored Statement For World Title Fight

Openly gay boxer Orlando Cruz is set to make history this weekend when he fights Orlando Salido for a world title -- while sporting rainbow boxing shorts.

In a powerful statement for LGBT rights, Cruz plans to wear the shorts during his highest-visibility fight to date at the Thomas & Mack Center, Yahoo Sports' Kevin Iole is reporting.

Cruz, who is set to marry boyfriend Jose Manuel in New York on Nov. 16, will also reportedly don pink gloves during the bout in order to show support for Breast Cancer Awareness month.

Cruz made history when he came out as the first openly gay professional boxer in October 2012. He has since stated that he hoped his coming out would both make him "a better boxer" and earn him "respect."
