The click of his pen sounds like the cocking of a gun.
We hold on tight to our civil liberties and run.
As he signs another executive order for fun.
He views this presidency as merely a prize he won.
We clutch our rainbow flags, press badges and our green cards,
as we hope the Quran and free speech will not be barred.
In just ten days time, our entire country has been jarred.
We pray our reputation is not permanently scarred.
In our new nation, he says, fear the Muslim refugee.
With no proof at all, he chose to enact a decree.
Does he not know this is an affront to our ancestry?
What do we tell our children and our Lady of Liberty?
Our airports have become national internment camps,
as Muslims must wait for a verification stamp.
Their religion, cause for interrogation by flood lamp.
While the pro bono lawyers spend days getting writer’s cramp.
This new America has a new scarlet letter.
The hijab is our Star of David to the vetter.
How will this intolerance make America better?
When did we stop seeing ourselves as the world’s tone setter?
So, we choose voices as weapons, our words, our ammo.
We will march, chant, and protest to deliver the memo.
That we will not sit by and watch this “presidential” sideshow.
We the people have spoken, “The president must go.”
He has made a mockery of our democracy
And overnight turned it into an autocracy.
Our land of the free is a joke, a hypocrisy
Currently ruled by the few chosen aristocracy.
When history is written, my fellow electors,
You will be asked were you among the protectors?
or Were you merely a tax payer and silent spectator?
or an injustice slayer and active protestor?
Join us. Resist the new regime of fascism.
We counter with altruism and activism,
Our own powerful, empowering brand of patriotism.
Join us, armed with love, hope and optimism.
We are at a crossroad. Lies and fear are being sold.
How will your part in this story unfold?
Will you stand up and be so bold?
Which American ideals will you uphold?
