Our Vanishing Wilderness: First Environmental T.V. Series Now Available Online (VIDEO)

Before Planet Earth came Our Vanishing Wilderness. The 70s environmental T.V. series was groundbreaking for its time, as it was not only the first environmental show, but according to New York public network Thirteen, it was also the last one for another few decades. Now, nearly 40 years later, you can view all eight, half-hour episodes online on Thirteen.

The series was started by husband and wife team Shelly Grossman, nature photographer, and Mary Louise Grossman, nature writer. It explored environmental news and natural history, along with footage of animals in the wild. The film quality may be way grittier than Planet Earth, but there's plenty of action to rival its modern counterpart.
