Fiji just made a bit of history at the Olympics. They won their very first medal and it is gold in the rugby sevens against Great Britain with a final 43-7.

But this post is not about the win, but rather about the reaction from the whole Pacific to that win and how our nations basically stopped operating for 30 minutes while everyone watched the game.

Meetings of Pacific Ministers, work of banks and intergovernmental organizations and universities and many many more basically stopped while we all collectively stood as a region to cheer on one of our very own teams competing in the international arena. If there is one thing that brings Pacific islanders together, it is rugby and more specifically the notion of a small island team shoving it to a larger and obviously less talented team.

Today in the Pacific, we are all Fijians.
