Donald Trump’s promise to deny access to the United States for citizens of countries shown to have terrorist tendencies presents him with a slight problem: since 9/11, the United States’ own homegrown terrorist attacks certainly qualifies all of us America citizens for denial of entry to our country. American citizens acting in the name of demented jihadist impulses have committed 10 attacks killing 95 persons. This includes the horrific loss of 50 persons in Orlando, which finally pushes the total fatalities from jihadist-type killings ahead of those killed by far right-wing terrorists: these have inflicted 18 attacks on fellow citizens, killing 48 persons. (These are just the killings the FBI labels acts of terror. Never mind my fellow white Christians who killed 164 by bombing the federal building in Oklahoma or slaughtered 20 small children and 6 teachers in Sandy Hook or...)
But of course that uncongenial bit of truth wouldn’t fit with Mr. Trump’s fact-free inflammatory blithering wherein he’s going to solve our problems by demonizing anyone unlike himself.
