Pamela Levi Bites Into Pizza, Finds A Pearl

S.C. Woman Finds Pearl As She Bites Into Pizza

Pamela Levi thought she'd lost a tooth when she felt a crunch after biting into a slice of her favorite pizza.

Instead -- teeth intact -- she pulled out a pearl. It had been hiding in an oyster atop a pizza at Goatfeathers restaurant in Columbia, S.C., KOBI5.com reports.

Jeff Helsley, owner of Goatfeathers, was the first to recognize the treasure:

"All of a sudden she's looking really weird and I look over and she pulls this pearl out of her mouth," he told the news source.

The odds of finding a pearl in an oyster are commonly thought to be about 1 in 12,000. But, for Levi, who heard about this happening to someone as a child, the thrill was larger than life.

"When I was young, I heard on the news about someone finding a pearl in an oyster and I thought that would be the ultimate," Levi told KOBI5.com. "So when it happened to me it was incredible."

CORRECTION: An earlier version of this story misstated that Goatfeathers restaurant is in Columbus, S.C.
