"This is only the beginning," announces the trailer for "Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones." It's a strange sentiment, considering this is the fifth entry in the lucrative series. Then again, the newest version is markedly different than its predecessors. We already knew that series creator Oren Peli was planning to fashion a Latino version that would serve as a "cousin" of the series rather than a standard sequel or spin-off. That plan is on display in the new trailer for "The Marked Ones," which was originally slated to open this month but will now bow on Jan. 3, 2014.
The new "Paranormal Activity" adopts a plot that was hinted at in the previous edition of the series, centering on a Catholic inquiry into a reported demonic possession. "This is some black-magic stuff," a character declares in the trailer. And so continues this never-ending franchise.
