Queer Activists Deliver A Big Surprise For North Carolina's Governor

Activists told Gov. Pat McCrory where to put his bigoted logic with a portable toilet.

North Carolina Gov. Pat McCrory got an unexpected surprise last week, just days after he signed a controversial anti-LGBT bill into law.

On March 25, a portable toilet was delivered to the North Carolina State Capitol in Raleigh days after McCrory signed House Bill 2, WNCN reports. The move was particularly symbolic because the legislation blocks cities from allowing trans people to use public restrooms that correspond with their gender identity.

"Seeing as our governor seems so concerned with our bathroom habits we've decided to bring him a little gift," organizers wrote on a Facebook page that had been created for the protest. "I've secured a Port-O-John to be delivered tomorrow to Raleigh and would love have as many people join us as possible as we attempt to give Gov. Pat McCrory this important symbol of the work he's done for North Carolina."

The toilet was eventually moved later in the day because the protesters didn't have a permit, according to reports. One of the protest's organizers told local CBS affiliate WFMY that the gesture began as a social media joke, but it eventually took off.

Unfortunately, the surprise delivery doesn't seem to have had much of an impact on the governor. On Tuesday, McCrory argued that his state had become "the target of a vicious, nationwide smear campaign" in a Facebook post.

A day earlier, he dismissed widespread criticism of the bill as "more political theater than reality" in an NBC interview.

“We are not taking away any rights whatsoever of individuals,” he said, adding later that he thinks “this political correctness has gone amok.”

The potty may not have swayed McCrory's opinion, but we can't think of a more appropriate way to make a statement!
