Blackhawks Takes Puck To Face During Game 1

A woman is recovering after being hit by a puck on Wednesday night at the United Center during the Blackhawks' triple overtime win in Game 1 of the Stanley Cup finals.

55-year-old Patricia Higgins found herself on the receiving end of a deflected slap shot just seconds before the game went into overtime. According to the Chicago Sun Times, the injury required a number of both internal and external stitches following a one and a half-inch gash that extended from her right eyebrow to the bridge of her nose.

“We thank God her eye was spared,” Higgins' mother told the Chicago Sun Times. “That thing went just like an arrow right to her, just an inch more, and it could have been her eye. She’ll have a nice shiner for a while."

Higgins underwent surgery on Thursday and is expected to make a full recovery, CBS Chicago reports.
