Patton Oswalt penned a gut-wrenching goodbye to his wife, Michelle McNamara, just weeks after the crime writer died unexpectedly in her sleep on April 21.
In a piece for Time magazine, Oswalt began by writing in his wife's characteristic, crime-writing style. He reminisced about McNamara's incredible journalistic endeavors, the full life she lived and the many lives she touched.
"The reaction to her passing, the people who are shocked at her senseless absence, is a testament to how she steered her life with joyous, wicked curiosity," Oswalt wrote. "Her family is devastated but can’t help remember all of the times she made them laugh or comforted them, and they smile and laugh themselves. She hasn’t left a void. She’s left a blast crater."
Over the weekend, Oswalt shared a beautiful quote from his piece that came from the couple's 7-year-old daughter, Alice.
Immediately after the death of his wife, Oswalt remained relatively silent save for one tweet about McNamara, saying: "She wrote lines that stung & hummed. 13 years in her presence was happily humbling."
McNamara and Oswalt were married in 2005 and welcomed their daughter, Alice, in 2009.
