This actually makes a lot of sense.
On Thursday night's "Late Night With Seth Meyers," comedian and known "Star Wars" aficionado Patton Oswalt suggested a special order to view the six Star Wars films called the "Machete Order." Oswalt admits he did not come up with the idea but that trying it will not only give a better viewing experience, but perhaps a greater appreciation for the characters and their story lines.
You begin first by watching the original "Star Wars" and following that up with "Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back." Now, instead of proceeding to "Return Of The Jedi," you reverse back to the prequels. BUT, not to the "Episode I: The Phantom Menace" -- it doesn't exist in this scheme, ignore it. Go instead to "Episode II: Attack Of The Clones," then to "Episode III: Revenge Of The Sith," where you watch Anakin Skywalker's descent into evil as he becomes Darth Vader. Finally, watch "Return Of The Jedi" where Luke Skywalker redeems his father and defeats the Emperor.
Back in April, Oswalt made a cameo appearance on NBC's "Parks and Recreations" where he gave a legendary filibuster speech describing in detail how he would continue the "Star Wars" saga plot line in Episode VII. It never aired unfortunately, but it deserves a look:
