A Republican member of the House of Representatives said Tuesday that President Barack Obama upholds the constitution of a socialist state that ceased to exist more than 20 years ago.

Rep. Paul Broun (R-Ga.) told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that Obama upholds the constitution of the Soviet Union: "The Constitution I uphold and defend is the one I carry in my pocket all the time, the U.S. Constitution. I don’t know what Constitution that other members of Congress uphold, but it’s not this one. I think the only Constitution that Barack Obama upholds is the Soviet constitution, not this one. He has no concept of this one, though he claimed to be a constitutional lawyer."

Broun tweeted during the 2011 State of The Union from his own office that Obama believes in socialism. In a 2008 interview, he compared Obama to Hitler and Karl Marx.

More recently, in the 2012 election cycle, video surfaced of Broun, who is also a doctor, calling evolution and the big bang theory "lies straight from the pit of Hell."
