Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) endorsed Mitt Romney for president Friday on "Fox & Friends."
"I am convinced that Mitt Romney has the skills, the tenacity, the principles and the courage to put America back on track," said Ryan, adding that he thought the former Massachusetts governor had the best chance to defeat President Barack Obama.
"I am convinced if we drag this out to the summer, it's going to make it that much harder to beat Obama in the fall," Ryan said.
Ryan's endorsement comes before the Wisconsin primary Tuesday, where Romney is favored to win.
Romney has praised Ryan's budget plan, which passed the House Thursday but is dead on arrival in the Democratic-led Senate. The plan imposes huge cuts on domestic programs, including $200 billion in cuts to Pell Grants. Those under 55 could choose to opt into a Medicare program offering a voucher for private insurance instead of the traditional plan.
"The House budget and my own plan share the same path forward: pro-growth tax cuts, getting federal spending under control and strengthening entitlement programs for future generations," Romney said Thursday in a statement on the Ryan plan.
The endorsement is the latest by top Republicans recently, including Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, and former President George H.W. Bush.
