A Fitness Center in Portland called Beast Nation is being billed as the world's first free gym. Anyone can work out for no charge whatsoever, as long as they agree to commit three random acts of kindness after they leave.
Patrons are enthusiastic about the program and report activities like paying the bill for a person behind them in a line, helping neighbors, and just calling up a friend they haven't spoken to in a while. Many say they don't stop at three and have begun to actively look for people in need to help. The gym pays its bills by securing sponsorship from local businesses.
What a wonderful example of evolved thinking! Of course, individuals roaming Portland streets surprising strangers with random acts of kindness is bound to improve the quality of life in the community. And this will reflect in so many unknown ways, including financially. This makes corporate investment a wise long-term investment for the businesses that sponsor Beast Nation.
Perhaps this story can inspire us to do the same (without even needing to work out!). Surprise someone with a kind act; it usually doesn't take much. In addition to the obvious benefit, what really makes an impact is being cared for.
All of us love to be loved!
