Pearl Jam fans had their hands upraised and open toward the sky on Monday afternoon, following a cryptic tweet from the band promising something on Monday, July 8 at 1 p.m. EST.
In addition to the Pearl Jam Vine, the band's website has a section devoted to the countdown clock. "This area will be unlocked once the clock reaches 000:00:00:00," a note below the clock reads.
Whether Pearl Jam will announce a new album on Monday or simply a world tour is unclear, though fans are speculating about both outcomes on Twitter. If Pearl Jam is releasing a new record, it will end the longest drought the band has ever had between new discs; Pearl Jam's last album, "Backspacer," was released in 2009. It should be noted that the band was rumored to have a new single, "Mind Your Manners," ready for release on July 16. Guitarist Mike McCready has also discussed a new album in recent interviews.
"I've been told by the powers that be I can't say anything yet because we are just mixing it right now," McCready said in an interview with the "Bob and Groz" radio show back in May. "[The powers that be] are basically the five of us and our manager, we sit down and talk about -- honestly, we don't have a date for it yet."
Perhaps they do now.
