Pedro Cruz Trujillo, Assistant Coach, Smoked Marijuana With His Students (VIDEO, UPDATED)

WATCH: Coach Smoked Pot With His Students

Sports are generally thought of as healthy activities that keep students out of trouble. And coaches ideally are mentors who guide kids away from trouble -- like drugs.

And yet one assistant high school baseball coach allegedly gave marijuana to students and smoked it with them. The coach, 24-year-old Pedro Cruz Trujillo, drove six students, aged 14 to 16, to a game at Dodger Stadium on May 18 and that's when the group allegedly smoked together, according to the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD).

Trujillo was an assistant coach at Kennedy High School in Granada Hills, Calif. Another staff member at the high school overheard students talking about the incident and reported what he heard to the LAPD.

Since then, detectives have worked with the school to confirm the accusations and determine if there have been other similar occurrences.

Trujillo was arrested Monday, faces six counts of child endangerment and is being held on $100,000 bail. Additional charges of contributing to the delinquency of a minor are pending. Trujillo has since been removed from his coaching position.

This California coach wasn't the first to have the urge to light up with students. Melissa Dunning, a 31-year-old California junior high school teacher, was fired after being accused of smoking marijuana with two of her own students, including at her home while tutoring a student.

Even worse, Brooklyn high school art teacher Giovanna Vasconez was fired for allegedly bedding one of her students, fooling around with another and smoking pot and drinking alcohol with both plus another student. Clearly, some school staff take the duty of "educating" students a little too far.

UPDATE: The Los Angeles Unified School District has confirmed that Pedro Cruz Trujillo has officially been fired from both his positions at Kennedy High School, reports LAist.

Trujillo was also an education aide at the school.
