From the files of the notoriously unreliable British entertainment press: Penelope Cruz is maybe possibly definitely going to co-star opposite Daniel Craig in the next James Bond film. Should this casting actually happen, Cruz, now 39, would become the oldest Bond girl ever once the film was released, passing 39-year-old "Goldfinger" star Honor Blackman for the title.
Said an unnamed source to Yahoo UK about the decision to hire Cruz: "The producers have tried to get Penelope before, but she has never been available because of other commitments. The discussions have been going on for some time and they are working out the contract details now." In a twist that you already noticed, Cruz's husband, Javier Bardem, played the villain in "Skyfall."
Whether Cruz actually stars in the next 007 film is unclear (Sony, the studio that releases Bond films in North America, did not comment on the rumor when asked by Yahoo), but don't necessarily start holding your breath. Back in 2010, both Freida Pinto and Olivia Wilde were "attached" to Bond through the British press, but neither actress actually wound up appearing in what would become "Skyfall." Bond 24, of course, might be a different beast -- at least when it comes to rumors and speculation. Take director Sam Mendes, who said he wasn't going to direct the next film, only to relent two months later.
