PETA Targets Celebrity Chef Fans With New 'Silent Scream' Ad Spot

PETA: Gordon Ramsay Can Scream, But The Animals He Cooks Can't

The season premiere of Gordon Ramsay's "Hell's Kitchen" is June 4, and PETA has a bone to pick with Gordon Ramsay's screaming... sort of. The animal rights group has introduced a new video (see below) that shows that while Gordon Ramsay may be able to scream as much as he wants, the screams of fish are silent. To draw a parallel between Ramsay's screams and the silent screams of fish, PETA has written a letter to FOX asking the network to run its "groundbreaking new fish empathy public service announcement."

"It may be easier to identify with our favorite "Hell's Kitchen" contestants than with the fish they fillet and sauté, but fish feel pain and fear, and they suffer enormously when they are impaled, crushed, suffocated, or cut open and gutted, all while they're fully conscious ," says PETA Senior Vice President Lisa Lange in a press release emailed to The Huffington Post. "PETA's 'Silent Scream' video tells viewers that it's never right to hurt others simply because they are weaker than we are and can't speak up for themselves--regardless of what species they happen to be."

The letter to FOX reads in part:

Contestants on Hell's Kitchen choose to subject themselves to bullying in the kitchen, but the animals who are cut up and cooked on the show don't have any choice--and they lose their lives, not just their pride. Airing Silent Scream during the show would remind viewers that might doesn't make right and that it's never acceptable to intimidate, exploit, or hurt others--regardless of which species they happen to be a member of.

PETA is hoping that its members will tweet the video to various famous chefs and food personalities including Emeril Lagasse, Giada De Laurentiis, Rocco DiSpirito, Paula Deen and Mario Batali, in addition to Gordon Ramsay. The "Silent Scream" website has links to all of the chefs' Twitter accounts.
