The hunt for the next "Ant-Man" director has finally ended. Peyton Reed has signed on to the Marvel flick to direct the film starring Paul Rudd and Michael Douglas. Writer Adam McKay will contribute to the script.

Marvel announced the news on its website on Saturday, June 7 after Edgar Wright exited the project two weeks ago, citing "creative differences." THR and The Wrap had speculated that Reed was in the running for the position, but "Wet Hot American Summer" director David Wain was also a reported contender.

Reed's credits include "Bring It On," "Down With Love," "The Break-Up" and "Yes Man." He also developed "Fantastic Four" at Fox.

Marvel described the plot for "Ant-Man" in its most recent statement and said, "Armed with the astonishing ability to shrink in scale but increase in strength, con-man Scott Lang (Rudd) must embrace his inner-hero and help his mentor, Dr. Hank Pym (Douglas), protect the secret behind his spectacular Ant-Man suit from a new generation of towering threats. Against seemingly insurmountable obstacles, Pym and Lang must plan and pull off a heist that will save the world." Its current release date is July 17, 2015.
