One of the families targeted by deceased cop-killer Christopher Dorner has spoken out about the terrifying experience.
Los Angeles Police Department Captain Phil Tingirides and his wife LAPD Sergeant Emada Tingirides were placed under police protection during the manhunt for Dorner, CBS reports.
“The whole time, for us, it was about being strong for our kids,” Cpt. Phil Tingirides said at a news conference Tuesday. “We found that [the experience] brought our family closer together." The couple have six children ranging from 10 to 24 years old.
“We decided to try and get the children out of the house to instill some normalcy in their lives,” Sgt. Emada Tingirides said. “So, we did leave the house, we did so with fear, we did so with anxiety, but we also did so with pride.”
“The LAPD served our family so well,” she added.
Dorner wrote in an online manifesto that he was unfairly terminated for reporting what he claimed was misbehavior by officer Teresa Evans. Dorner wrote about Phil Tingirides in the manifesto:
Capt. Phil Tingirides was a personal friend of Teresa Evans from when he was her supervisor at Harbor station. That is a clear conflict of interest and I made my argument for his removal early and was denied.
Tingirides was among 50 officers Dorner named in the manifesto, saying to all of them, “I never had the opportunity to have a family of my own, I’m terminating yours."
On Feb. 6, the LAPD announced finding Dorner's manifesto online, and put mentioned officers and their families under police protection. Six days later, on Feb. 12, police found Dorner in the San Bernardino mountains and a shootout ended with Dorner dying from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
