'Duck Dynasty' Star Wants To 'Rid The Earth' Of Gay Marriage Supporters

Phil Robertson slammed marriage equality while rallying for Ted Cruz in Iowa.

It appears as if the homophobic legacy of "Duck Dynasty" will carry on through the 2016 U.S. presidential election cycle.

The reality show's patriarch, Phil Robertson, stumped for Republican presidential hopeful Ted Cruz at a rally in Iowa on Sunday, slamming same-sex marriage as an example of the "depravity" and "perversion" that's taking over America, Right Wing Watch reports.

"Re-defining marriage and telling us that marriage is not between a man and a woman? C'mon, Iowa, it's nonsense," Robertson said. "It is evil! It's wicked! It's sinful."

He then added, "We have to run this bunch out of Washington D.C. We have to rid the earth of them. Get them out of there!"

Robertson publicly endorsed Cruz last month, calling the Texas senator "godly."

"I’ve looked at the candidates; Ted Cruz is my man," Robertson said in a video released by the Cruz campaign. "He loves us, he’s the man for the job, and he will go duck hunting because today we’re going.”

Robertson's remarks aren't particularly surprising given his history of anti-gay rhetoric. In 2013, he made headlines when he opened up about "modern immorality" and the gay community in a controversial GQ interview.

It seems like, to me, a vagina -- as a man -- would be more desirable than a man’s anus," he said. "That’s just me. I’m just thinking: There’s more there! She’s got more to offer. I mean, come on, dudes! You know what I’m saying? But hey, sin: It’s not logical, my man. It’s just not logical.”

It will be interesting to see how Robertson's views gel with those of his son, Willie, who has publicly endorsed Donald Trump.
