PHOTOS: Alexandria During the Civil War

ALEXANDRIA, Va. -- On Oct. 5, Lyceum will host "A Visual Tour of Civil War Alexandria," a lecture by Wally Owen, assistant director of Fort Ward Museum and co-author of "Mr. Lincoln's Forts: A Guide to the Civil War Defenses of Washington."

The presentation will include 3-D and rare Civil War photographs of Alexandria, the war's longest-occupied city. (For more on Civil War photography, see the Center on Civil War Photography -- it's got a terrific section on the surprisingly robust world of 3-D photography in the Civil War; the Library of Congress also has Flickr sets of 3-D Civil War photography.)

Wally Owen's lecture will he held at The Lyceum, 201 S. Washington St. in Old Town. It begins at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 per person, are available by calling The Lyceum at (703) 746-4994 or through the online shop at alexandriahistory.org.
