Protesters descended upon 14th Street and Broadway Ave. in downtown Oakland on Wednesday morning to show support for Occupy Oakland's planned general strike. Speakers such as activist Angela Davis (pictured in this Turnstyle News photo essay), Rabbi Lerner, rapper Boots Riley, and other community activists, began rallying supporters promptly at 9am.

Turnstyle News' Brandon McFarland made his way through the crowds, capturing the diversity of the event, as an estimated 5,000 protesters have filled the streets.
