I've been going to the Philadelphia Flower Show on and off for decades. It's the perfect dose of springtime to get me excited for a new season. The best way to see it is when you don't have to fight all the crowds, like the night of the preview gala, which I'm lucky enough to attend. On that night, shopping is closed, which is for me half the fun!

This year, Organic Gardening is hosting a series of expert culinary demonstrations to teach people how to turn the edibles from the garden into a full range of international dishes, from rustic Italian to flavor-forward Asian fusion. Edward Lee, acclaimed chef at Louisville, Kentucky's 610 Magnolia, Iron Chef America competitor and recent James Beard finalist for Best Chef, will hold cooking demonstrations, on March 4 and 5 at 1:30 p.m. and 3 p.m. Nationally recognized journalist and author Eugenia Bone will demonstrate the art of mushroom pickling on March 11. Celebrated food writer Victoria von Biel, who is the former executive editor of Bon Appétit magazine and is consulting food and wine editor for Organic Gardening magazine, will hold a cooking demonstration on March 6.
Plus, Organic Gardening Editor-in-Chief Ethne Clarke will play host to the magazine's opening events over the first several days of the show; Editor Doug Hall will be discussing organic gardening how-to's. Plus, there will be some amazing lectures, including some from Rodale authors, among them Colonial Williamsburg gardener Wesley Greene and photojournalist Matthew Benson. Benson, who is a contributing editor to Organic Gardening, will present advice and highlights from his gorgeous forthcoming book, The Photographic Garden: Mastering the Art of Digital Garden Photography (Rodale, 2012).
