While running backstage at New York Fashion Week Spring 2012, I was caught off guard by models with pink eye. Not the grossly, contagious infection that ran rampant in elementary school, but dusty rose eye shadow. And as our beauty buddies over at BellaSugar have noticed, celebrities like Ginnifer Goodwin, Julianne Moore and Emma Stone are catching the trend. I know firsthand how pink lipstick is the best makeup for any skin color, however, I tend to shy away from bringing the shade above my pout.
"Pink brightens up the face without having to wear too much makeup. It creates a fresh, happy look on the eyes," according to Mai Quynh, mark celebrity makeup artist.
While adding pops of pink to your daily makeup routine can create a fun and feminine finish, Mary Kay makeup artist Virginia Linzee (whose unlikely clientele includes musical acts like Cobra Starship and Drake) believes that it is also very easy to make this runway to red carpet trend go garish quickly.

Create a smooth foundation with primer.
"Not only will your eye makeup stay on longer, but it also smooths the skin and leaves a velvety finish that will help blend shadows and avoid cakey-ness," says Linzee. Focus the application of your primer in the center or outer corners for the most color payoff.
Be sure to blend, blend and blend.
Linzee uses a soft brush to pack the most color near the roots of the lashes. "Blend the eye color upward, letting it gently fade as it makes its way onto the crease. The pink alone will be the most wearable way to wear this trend, however, you can smudge a soft neutral taupe near the lash line that complements your skin tone to balance out the pink," she explains.
When in doubt, go simple.
"Having bright colors all over may be too intense, so if this is a new look for you, keep the rest of the face neutral," says Quynh. Apply liquid liner to add depth to the eyes, otherwise they'll look washed out since the pink usually runs on the lighter side. Then brush on two coats of mascara, using an eyelash comb to help fringe stay separate and avoid clumping. Finish with groomed brows and a blush or lip color with the same sheer pink undertone.
