Pizza Hut's Xbox 360 App Lets Gamers Order Pie Straight From The Console

Hallelujah! Now You Can Use Your Xbox To Order Pizza

Executives at Pizza Hut would have you believe the "360" in Xbox 360 stands for all 360 degrees -- of a circular pizza.

The eatery has partnered with Microsoft to launch an app that lets video game players place Pizza Hut orders via Xbox Live. The "Create Your Pizza App" is geared toward gamers who are glued to the couch and rarely put down their game controllers (not even to call the delivery guy).

For the particularly sweaty-palmed, orders can be entered using Kinect gestures or voice input.

“The launch of the ordering app for Xbox Live gamers represents a major milestone for Pizza Hut and sets the tone for ordering capabilities for not only the pizza category, but the entire retail landscape,” said Kurt Kane, chief marketing officer at Pizza Hut, in a release. “With today’s avid gamers and busy modern families gathering around their gaming consoles as much as they gather around a dinner table, we felt this was a natural next step for Pizza Hut as we continue to own the digital ordering experience for pizza lovers everywhere.”

According to the release, this is the first tangible good ever made available via the Xbox Live platform. And while Engadget reports Microsoft doesn't intend to make pizza the first salvo in a potential trend of selling real-world products on Xbox Live, Forbes counters that it may very well be an option in the long run.

Forbes also makes the point that, to succeed, the app needs to be more than a cool new way to order pizza. It needs to actually make ordering a pizza easier.

For now, it may be easier to just pick up the phone.
