Have you ever stumbled upon an abandoned building and experienced a sense of wonder?
What was this? Who built it? Do the people who used to live, work or go to school here care that it's now a crumbling shell?
Maybe. Maybe not. Things are often abandoned for a reason.
Here at Global Yodel, we reached out to our community for pictures of places that have been left behind. We left it open to interpretation because our contributors are so freaking creative.
We were not disappointed. They sent us photos of tourist spots closed for the winter, an arcade game discarded at the outskirts of Hollywood, and even a water slide marooned at low tide.
The photos are great, but we also got a kick out of some of the comments. Like the Dutch biochemical technician who said he cruises the harbors of Amsterdam looking for abandoned "wastelands." Why? They make for the best spots to hold a barbecue.
A Canadian man blasted the intrusion of new subdivisions in his neighborhood. A man from Detroit insisted Michigan's future is bright, despite its deserted dollar stores.
