Beatrice Wood: Career Woman is a comprehensive survey and new assessment of this seminal artist who made a remarkable body of ceramic luster ware until just a few years before her death in 1998 at the age of 105. This exhibition is in conjunction with Pacific Standard Time: Art in L.A. 1945-1980. Also opening at SMMoA on Friday are Kelly Barrie: Mirror House; and Tantra Song: Contemporary Tantric Paintings from Rajasthan.

Character Gestures is a show of José Parlá's latest body of work. Comprised of paintings, mono-transfers, and installations, this exhibition builds on the artist's earlier work, depictions of distressed architectural surfaces layered with calligraphic text, by stressing process and abstraction.

John Outterbridge: The Rag Factory

This installation is part of the Pacific Standard Time exhibition schedule and is Outterbridge's most extensive show in Los Angeles in decades. The event begins with an artist-curator lecture at 6pm and a public opening The Rag Factory showcases the beauty as well as the social, cultural, and economic complexity of rags made from reclaimed clothing.
