Fans of Mark Ruffalo's portrayal of the Incredible Hulk will be disappointed to hear that Joss Whedon is throwing some cold water on rumors of an all-Hulk-everything movie.
Whedon, who directed "Marvel's The Avengers" and has signed on for the sequel, told IGN that there are no plans for a "Planet Hulk" film to follow "Avengers 2." When asked if upcoming Marvel movies would delve further into Hulk storylines, Whedon took a firm stance: "Well, I’m really not supposed to comment, but no, that’s nonsense."
The rumor was first postulated by Latino Review, who went all out and described the non-story as a "SUPER BOWL EXCLUSIVE" (emphasis original). Of course, it's possible that Whedon is engaging in a bit of misdirection, but at this point, it's the franchise director's word against that of an admittedly well-connected blog.
Another comic book site has confirmed Whedon's denial, albeit with an unnamed source.
Marvel head Kevin Feige has gone back and forth on the notion of another Hulk movie. In April 2012, he said there would be no need for a further Hulk film because the studio felt it was "mission accomplished" for the character's storyline. But in September, Feige had this to say:
"Do I think Hulk can carry a movie and be as entertaining as he was in 'Avengers'? I do believe that. I do believe he absolutely could. We certainly are not even going to attempt that until 'Avengers 2.' So there's a lot of time to think about it."
