Officers rammed a stolen police cruiser and shot the driver dead following a high-speed chase across Los Angeles County on Sunday night.
The suspect hit 100 mph as he drove the West Covina Police Department vehicle with its hazard lights flashing and sirens blaring. He also drove on the wrong side of the road as he weaved in and out of traffic in Alhambra, North Hollywood and Hollywood.
It's currently unclear when, where and how the unidentified driver stole the car. Police began pursuing the cruiser in West Covina at 9:45 p.m., NBC Los Angeles reported.
The pursuit ended in the city of Glendale at 10:40 p.m when another West Covina Police Department car rammed the stolen vehicle, and officers opened fire.
Medics arrived on the scene, but the suspect was later pronounced dead, according to Heavy.com. No police officers were injured in the incident.
Glendale Police Sgt. Robert William confirmed to the Los Angeles Times that the shooting involved officers from the West Covina Police Department. Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said it was assisting in investigating "the circumstances surrounding an officer-involved shooting that occurred at the termination of a pursuit on Sunday."
"The suspect, a male adult, was struck by gunfire and pronounced dead at the scene," the statement said.
