Police Search McPherson Square Occupy Camp For Oscar Ramiro Ortega

Occupy D.C. Camp Searched For Oscar Ramiro Ortega

WASHINGTON -- Police in the nation's capital searched the Occupy D.C. encampment in McPherson Square on Monday for a 21-year-old man wanted in Friday night's incident where gunfire was reported near the White House.

As the Washington Examiner reported, U.S. Park Police officers conducted a "sweep" of the park and were seen pulling an Occupy protester out of a tent and questioning him.

That search was unsuccessful, The Associated Press reported. Park Police Sgt. David Schlosser told the AP that callers informed police that a man matching the description of Oscar Ramiro Ortega was seen in the park, located two blocks north of the White House.

On Sunday, an arrest warrant was issued for Oretga, a man whom police have linked to Friday night's incident near the White House were reports of gunfire prompted police to shutdown Constitution Avenue NW and streets adjacent to it.

Police recovered a rifle in an abandoned vehicle left at 23rd Street NW and Constitution Avenue that police have tied to Ortega, who has been charged with carrying a dangerous weapon.

It remains unclear what prompted Friday's episode of gunfire on Constitution Avenue between 15th and 17th streets NW, adjacent to the Ellipse and Washington Monument. President Obama and first lady Michele Obama were not at the White House at the time of the incident.
