Sigourney Weaver is certainly the queen of science-fiction, but how will she fare in the political arena? The "Alien" star leads USA's summer six-part miniseries "Political Animals," playing a Hillary Clinton-like politician.
While a majority of critics are praising Weaver's portrayal of Secretary of State Elaine Barrish -- HuffPost TV's Maureen Ryan lauded the show for making a "decent run at reclaiming the word 'b-tch' and turning it into a compliment" -- there are a few who don't seem so convinced that "Political Animals" deserves Weaver's talent.
"'Political Animals' is junk," wrote Newsday's Verne Gay. "...It's a clanking, clattering collection of collagenous clinkers -- of dialogue so inept, of acting performances so preposterous, of plot points so cliched that the only question worth posing is why someone of Weaver's stature would be caught anywhere near a turkey like this."
Meanwhile, this weekend's new theatrical releases aren't doing much better. "Ice Age: Continental Drift," the fourth animated film in the "Ice Age" franchise, currently has a 41 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Slant called the film, "An 87-minute timesuck, choked on the last exhaust fumes of Spielberg's blockbuster legacy."
