Pope Francis Tries His Hand At Vlogging To Promote Interfaith Peace

His first video shares an impassioned call for interfaith unity.

When Pope Francis cares deeply about something, it shows.

On Wednesday, Francis launched a monthly video prayer series with an emotional call for peace between people of different faiths.

"Many think differently, feel differently, seeking God or meeting God in different ways," the pontiff said. "We are all children of God."

Francis, like other pope's before him, has long shared monthly prayers with the world, but never before via video. His prayer for January, he said, is "that sincere dialogue among men and women of different faiths may produce the fruits of peace and justice." Buddhist, Jewish, Muslim and Christian faiths are represented in the video.

The series launched on January 6, the day Catholics celebrate as the Feast of the Epiphany, when the Magi are said to have visited infant Jesus.

The videos are being produced by the Vatican Television Center and released through Jesuit-run network the Apostleship of Prayer. Each video will be featured on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube and the Apostleship of Prayer's phone app, Click To Pray.

Popes have entrusted the distribution of their monthly prayer intentions to the Apostleship of Prayer for more than a century, dating back to Pope Leo XIII in 1890. But Pope Francis is the first to use a video format to share these prayers with the larger world.

The full list of Francis's prayer intentions for the year can be found on the Apostleship of Prayer's website. They range from care for creation to respect for women and the end to child-soldiers.
