'Porn Studies' Is The New Academic Journal Dedicated To Pornography

Porn Just Got Its Own Academic Journal

Pornography has officially become academic. The new journal, Porn Studies, will become the "the first dedicated, international, peer-reviewed journal to critically explore those cultural products and services designated as pornographic," reported The Guardian.

The journal, which is being published by Routledge starting in 2014, will welcome submissions from fields as diverse as criminology, sociology, labor studies and media studies. According to the New York Times, Porn Studies will focus on pornography as it relates to “the intersection of sexuality, gender, race, class, age and ability.” This is definitely XXX-content for the scholarly set.

The Guardian asks whether the success of EL James' "Fifty Shades of Grey" trilogy played a role in the timing of the journal's inception. We're surprised it didn't already exist.

At the very least the journal will provide lots of material for Professor Hugo Schwyzer's "Navigating Pornography" class at Pasadena City College. Get ready for critical analyses of race in anime porn and the appeal of James Deen.
