'Portlandia' Premiere: Andy Samberg Guests As 'The Mixologist,' Falls For Carrie (VIDEO)

Andy Samberg Is 'The Mixologist' On 'Portlandia'

Andy Samberg, Fred Armisen's co-star and buddy from "Saturday Night Live" stopped by his other sketch comedy show, "Portlandia" (Fri., 10 p.m. EST on IFC), for its Season 2 premiere.

In a recurring sketch throughout the episode, Andy was "the mixologist," a character Carrie Brownstein's character fell for after he made her a crazy drink with all kinds of ingredients including, most importantly, love.

She countered with a mix tape, only to find that he'd moved to SoCal, where he became just another bartender. She and Fred headed for California, where they quickly discovered their Oregonian ways didn't fit in (what is with all the sun?!). Even worse, Carrie found that Andy was so distracted by the blonde beauties, he didn't even remember her.

So, in the most obvious way to get Andy Samberg's attention, Carrie broke out into a song about Portland. Andy quickly followed suit, and agreed to return with her to Portland, their love reaffirmed. Perhaps he'll become a recurring character, as the sketches on this show tend to recur throughout the season, and this one is based mostly on Fred and Carrie as themselves.

It's a strong showing, and one of several guest stars for the upcoming season. The good news is that according to critic Maureen Ryan, the better episodes are yet to come in what she calls a much-improved season for the show.

The ten-episode Season 2 of "Portlandia" continues each Friday at 10 p.m. EST on IFC.
