I was driving along in my car on my way to my day in job at 38 years old.

I was listening to Bob Proctor talk about how to change my mindset and my habits. He said that it was crazy to be trading time for money. I said, "Well thanks Bob! I'm on my way to work." On my lunch break, I would read Jack Canfield "The Success Principles." I was changing from the inside out. Everybody could see it. Including my co workers. This immediately turned into jealousy, and eventually I was fired. They said I was just too big for the company. Uh, OK.

It was the best day of my life, so I thought!

But what was I going to do with my life? What did I want? What were my dreams? What did I want my next year to look like? And for God sake, how could I stay out of having to get another job like that? What was My purpose in life?

Pardon my trip down memory lane, but I'm sure some of you have had these conversations with yourself. YES?

In "The Success Principles" book, I learned about Dream Boards or some people call them Vision Boards. I had heard of them several years before, when Oprah introduced The book "The Secret." I had created a dream board back then, but I didn't really understand the principles. I thought it was magic and instantaneous. I thought it had nothing to do with me. One day I tore the board off the wall after I felt like none of my dreams were coming true. I was having a p-i-t-y party. Years later I have gained some additional knowledge And life experience.

I'd like to share with you 6 ways Dream Boarding changed my life.

Quick definition, "A Dream Board is a visual representation, using images and power words, that represent the dreams and visions we have for our lives." Definition mine.

Here's how Dream Boards changed my life.

1. Dream Boards helped me to decide what I really wanted. See, I didn't really know the answer to that question. No one had really ever asked me what I wanted. I had been in survival mode for 38 years. Yes, I have some accomplishments under my belt, but everything I did was to survive. Nothing more. It was time to get back to the core of me.

2. Dream Boards gave me hope. I had hoped that my life would not stay the same. I had hoped that there was something better for me, if I could only dream it. Up to this point, My life has been pretty dark. Scattered with abuse, deception, poverty, And confusion. To be able to see my dreams on paper, gave me hope that a better day was coming.

3. Dream Boards gave me something to work toward. I no longer wished to fly by the seat of my pants. I was no longer being blown around by my circumstances. But I had something to live for. I had direction. I set my dreams High. I started believing The Impossible. I even added my daughter's, and husband's dreams to the board. My Dream Board became a symbol of hope and vision for my whole family.

4. This is a big one. My Dream Board kept me true to my core desires. If I had a decision to make, I would look at my dream board and see which decisions moved me toward my dreams. If a decision did not support my dreams, I just wouldn't do it. It is easy to let good opportunities rob you of the best. So the Dream Board is a physical reminder of what is the best for my family and I. If I do something different, it has got to be divinely sent, and it is better than what I consider the best. Sounds confusing, but that's another story.

5. When I would look at my Dream Board, I would feel Happy. That was a word I hadn't felt very often in my life. But my dreams made me feel good. My Dreams made me see beyond today. Dream Boarding helped heal me from Depression. You can not feel hopeful and depressed at the same time. It's impossible. Trust me, I know hopelessness and depression go together.

6. Dream Boards help you separate from what the media tells you life has to be like. If you are black or any other "wrong" nationality, If you're a woman, if you don't have a lot of money, etc etc. After creating my Dream Board, I stopped watching the news. I now had my own dream, that I was determined to make My reality. I believe the news is intended to keep you stuck and hopeless. But, if you just bother to Dream Again. Dream your own dream. Your life can change immediately.

A couple of months after creating my Dream Board, I started seeing certain things start to manifest. This was so exciting!! Eventually so many of my dreams started to come into view, I had to create Plan Boards, that's another blog.

In blogs to come, I will share with you how Dream Boards, your mind, and the laws of the Universe all work together.

For now, I encourage you to create your own Dream Board. If you already have one, revisit it. Update it. Make it exciting and hopeful again.

Supplies needed: A wish list, your favorite magazines, glue, scissors, and poster board.
That's it. Turn on your favorite music (make sure it has a positive vibe). Sit back and dream your life.

By the way, "Dream Your Life" is one of my signature coaching programs. I would love for you to join me for a Dream Board Party.
