On the campaign trail this week, President Obama and Mitt Romney gave television interviews focused on education. They discussed their policy differences and ideas.

Both men shared their thoughts abut the teacher's unions, teacher training, school choice, student loans, parent engagement, federal funding and the common core curriculum.

This week on Bloomberg EDU, Jane Williams got reactions from national teachers union leaders (listen here) Randi Weingarten, president of the American Federation of Teachers and Dennis Van Roekel of the National Education Association. She also sat down with the Romney campaign's top education advisor, Phil Handy, co-chairman of the Education Policy Committee for the Romney campaign, former chairman, Florida State Board of Education, chief executive officer of Strategic Industries, Inc. (You can listen here).

Meanwhile, reporters around the country covered the candidates' ideas on education. Here's a round-up of stories, starting with the National Education Writers Association (of which I am a member). EWA prepared a handy summary with contextual links to articles to support or refute the politician's talking points.

Disclosure: Susan Sawyers works with Jane Williams, host and producer, Bloomberg EDU. Education reporting is Susan's primary focus. And yep, it's about the kids, and the teachers, and the parents, and the community, and the nation's future. And transparency.
